Profile

The driving interest of my research efforts is to understand collective intelligence in cyberphysical systems. As our world embeds more resource-limited devices for digital data collection, coordinating among these devices to extract the most information value is key for better understanding the physical world and to determine how to best manage it.

I am a Principal Research Scientist at CSIRO's ICT Centre, where I lead the Pervasive Computing Group. I have a PhD in Information and Computer Science at University of California, Irvine in September 2005, an MS in Computer Networks and Distributed Computing from the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at UCI (2001), and a BE in Computer and Communications Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture at the American University of Beirut in (2000).

I have worked and studied in four continents (so far), in both academic and R&D organizations, and greatly enjoyed the diversity of these experiences, both professionally and personally. In 2005, I was a Project Scientist at UCI, before joining University College Dublin, Ireland as a research fellow in 2006. I then joined CSIRO, Australia in 2008, and was appointed as an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Queensland in 2009. I most recently held a Visiting Scientist appointment at MIT's CSAIL Lab in 2011.

Of course my interests are not solely focused on research, as I like to play sports (football, beach volleyball) and music (electric and acoustic guitar, as well as some piano).
